Fong 82, left us on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 at his home peacefully with his loved ones. David Benny Fong was born on April 2, 1939 in Oakland, California to Benny N. Fong and Betsy Gow Fong. He was the eldest of 6 siblings. David grew up in Oakland, California and went to Lincoln Elementary School where he enjoyed baseball and basketball. He later graduated from Oakland Tech High School. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Army where he served active duty in the Army Intelligence Division. After leaving the Army, David earned three degrees in Junior College and was hired by the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory at UC Berkeley as a Mechanical Draftsman in the Research Lawrence Radiation Lab where he worked for 37 years. David worked on highly classified projects to ensure the safety of our country. During that time he met the love of his life, Elsie Low and they later married in 1967. They would celebrate 54 years together. They had three children Christina, Michael, and Steven. David always put his family and children first. He would do anything to make sure that they had what they needed to succeed. David would enlist into the United States Air Force Reserves where he would serve for 24 years at Travis Air Force Base. He loved the military and enjoyed serving his country. He traveled the world and enjoyed the friendships and comradery made. David's best times were spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren as he always valued family first. He was very generous to his children and grandchildren. David had a keen sense of humor, and enjoyed telling jokes and stories. He was a people person and enjoyed a good conversation. David's hobbies included photography, all things military, dancing, reading, bargain shopping, and watching tv shows and movies. David loved watching news shows, documentaries, and discussing politics. He was also a diehard Oakland Raiders, Oakland A’s, and Golden State Warriors fan. He is survived by his loving wife, Elsie Low Fong; his children: Christina, Michael and Steven; 6 grandchildren: Kayla, Katlynn, Jacob, Alexander, Joshua, and Audrey; and his great grandchildren: Jamison, Rio, and Kai. David loved his family and will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
