In Loving Memory of My Husband Edward Gordon Phillips Sunrise: April 27th, 1936 Sunset: July 28th, 2020 Edward was born to the Reverend Donald L Phillips and his wife Gertrude (née Brown) in Detroit Michigan on April 27, 1936. He lost his mother at a young age, but the family held together due to a strong father and elder sisters and brothers. Edward was one of fourteen children and four of his brothers plus one sister followed their father into the Ministry. Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age in his father’s Church, New Bethel Baptist. Edward later met his bride, Audrey Carrington, when his family moved across the street in Detroit, Michigan. Edward and Audrey became close as did both families. Edward joined the US Navy after High School and years later he and Audrey began dating after re-uniting in California. They were married November 26, 1964. Edward achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer with notable wartime service on the USS Ranger (CVA-61) in Viet Nam. During his Navy Career he travelled to countless ports of call while he and Audrey were stationed overseas together in Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. In total, his Naval career spanned from 1962 to 1979. Edward was a lifelong Christian Man who loved the Lord, loved his family and was a Father, Uncle, Brother, and mentor to countless people. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and siblings: Forestine, John, Clarence, Lillian, Miriam, Donald Jr., Paul, Morris, Melvin, Delores, Kenneth, and Felicia. Edward is survived by his wife Audrey and by their children Jackie and John Moss. Additionally, he is survived by his brother William Phillips, and sisters-in-law: Cheryl Phillips, Ann Daily, Betty Carrington Brown and Sandra Phillips. Edward is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
