Catherine Rose Fraser

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of long-time Fairfield resident, Catherine Rose Fraser. She was born on November 12, 1925 and passed peacefully on March 29, 2026 at the amazing age of 100. Proudly Portuguese, “Cathy” as she was known, was the eldest daughter of Jessie and John Pires of Chico, California. Cathy attended the parochial schools of Chico, and graduated in 1943 from Notre Dame High School. Sometime after graduating, Cathy went on a blind date, and met the man who would become her husband for 70+ years, “Harry” Fraser. After a Saint Patrick’s Day wedding, the couple moved to Vallejo and then to Fairfield. They bought their forever home in the Brandon Estates in 1952. Most of Cathy’s years were as a homemaker, raising children, Kathy, James, and Joy. From 1968- 1975, Cathy worked as a crossing guard at local elementary schools Brandsford, Cleo Gordon, and David A. Weir and she’s never forgotten her favorite students. For decades, Cathy was also a poll worker at Fairview Elementary. Other volunteer work included adopting and caring for a section of the linear park near her home, and becoming a charter member of the Suisun chapter of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Of her many hobbies, Cathy’s favorite was playing the piano. She played for her own enjoyment several times a day, and was also a frequent visitor to La Mariposa, playing old-time classics for the residents there. Road trips with Harry in their little “Burro” trailer were a yearly affair, Anza-Borrego Desert being a favorite destination. Cathy liked puzzles, and no day was complete without a crossword and watching “Jeopardy!” or “The Price is Right”. In her later years, Cathy cared for her husband until his death in 2018, and remained independent in her home until 2024. Complications of an autoimmune disease made it impossible for her to return home, and so she resided at Clearwater Assisted Living until the time of her death. Cathy is predeceased by her parents Jessie and John Pires, sister Dolores (Paul) Riggs, husband Henry Fraser, and son James Fraser. She is survived by daughters Kathy (Ed) Henton and Joy (Sten) Mander; grandchildren Shawn (Marie) Henton, Erik and Ryan Mander; and great-granddaughter Matilda Henton. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at 10 am with a funeral service at 11 am on Monday, April 13 th at Fairfield Funeral Home, 1750 Pennsylvania Ave, Fairfield, Ca. Lunch will be provided immediately following the service, with burial at the Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery to follow.
